Recently, the School of Information and Communication Engineering hosted a hands-on radio soldering workshop, offering a unique opportunity for South African international students to explore the wonders of electronic technology and experience the charm of China’s practical teaching style.

The workshop buzzed with both excitement and concentration. Twenty South African students gathered around workbenches, with soldering tools and radio components neatly laid out in front of them. Under the guidance of their instructor, who explained the principles of soldering, the step-by-step procedures, and key safety precautions, the students eagerly picked up their tools and began carefully soldering tiny components onto the circuit boards.

One by one, the radios came to life. When the switch was flipped and a clear broadcast sound came through the speakers, the classroom erupted in smiles and applause. Proud of their accomplishments, the students gave each other a thumbs-up, celebrating the success together. Through this activity, they not only learned basic soldering techniques, but also gained deeper insights into China’s educational approach and its vibrant learning environment.

This radio soldering activity was designed to provide a rich, hands-on learning experience while promoting communication and integration among students from different cultural backgrounds. It allowed international students to not only enhance their professional skills, but also better engage with campus life in China and build meaningful connections and friendships.
